Artistic Director

Chris Verheyden

Founded by Chris Verheyden in 1996, Frontier Fireworks really was a dream that became a reality.

Frontier Fireworks was born from the love of seeing fireworks as a child. Endless moments watching out of a window over the Guy Fawkes season at the bewildering effects that graced our skies planted a seed many moons ago.

Growing up as a late teen into his early twenties, Chris found that he had a talent for throwing things a long way. In fact this other love for anything that flies led him into picking up a Javelin and a love for this sport that unfortunately ended at an early age due to a serious back injury.

This ended one dream but the next was already developing.

Not being perturbed by what the surgeons said, it was full steam ahead onto the next project…Frontier Fireworks.

Having lost his athletic sponsors due to the career ending injury, Chris went to the Prince’s Youth Business Trust and successfully obtained a loan to start the business.

The rest as they say, is history.

A clear vision is always something that Chris has had over the past years. Competitively driven, perhaps by his sports background, Chris is known to be the driving force and energy behind the company. Pushing hard every year to make Frontier Fireworks bigger and more spectacular in every sense of the word.

Somehow Chris has always been able to convince the team around him that “this will be a good idea” even if sometimes they think the opposite. The team are then able to deliver that project on time, every time with success.

This has seen the company working outside the realms of the fireworks industry where explosives have crossed over into other fields. Frontier have always delivered what they set out to achieve and this has seen the company develop into unusual and exciting projects.

You will always find Chris friendly and professional. For displays and trade, he will be the person you will most likely be in contact with first to ensure that you are looked after with the care and attention required for your needs.

Chris will often work late into the evening to ensure that everything is just perfect for your display and as he leads the company into the future, we all know that we are in safe hands to see the company go from strength to strength.

Display Director

Helen Stenlake

Helen is one of the founding members of Frontier Fireworks since the company first began back in 1996.

Following a degree in sports science, Helen brought her new organisational and methodical skills to Frontier Fireworks.

Helen deals with many of the logistics of preparing a fireworks display from site access, to ensuring the vans are packed and ready to go and collating all the information for all the team for each display. It is a huge logistical feat to ensure that our whole team is prepared and ready to perform back to back shows all over the country during the incredibly busy Guy Fawkes season.

Not to be beaten though, Helen is also one of our most experienced display managers and champions the place for women in the fireworks industry. In fact we feel we have an excellent number of women who have worked for us over the years and we continue to encourage this.

Helen fires many displays every year either by hand or with our excellent Cobra firing system. She enjoys the challenge of creating a spectacular display at every event whether this is for a school or on a Cathedral rooftop or out to sea on a barge.

One of Helen’s highlights was starting one of our displays with the Paralympic Flame before it headed off to Rio in 2016. During this event Helen was given the honour of carrying the torch for part of the procession and actually lighting the first firework with the Paralympic torch – a rare opportunity indeed.

Helen is also a keen photographer and has been developing this skill to photograph our many displays whenever she gets the chance and isn’t actually firing the displays herself. In fact a good number of the photographs on this website have been taken by Helen over the years.
